Tech Data shows solid performance over the year

Tech Data corporation, Computer 2000′s parent company, announced last month that its total sales grew 9 percent to more than £26 billion in the year ended 31 January 2012. On a regional basis, net sales in Europe increased 13 percent (8 percent on a euro basis) to $15.6 billion – 59 percent of total sales- compared with the previous year. In the Americas region(including North America and Latin America), sales increased by 3 percent to $10.8 billion- 41 percent of the annual worldwide total.

For the fourth quarter, total sales were $7.1 billion, consistent with the same period last year. European Q4 sales were $4.37 billion, or 61 percent of the worldwide figure. This was an increase of 2 percent in euro terms over the prior year quarter and 21 percent up on sales on the third quarter of fiscal 2012. Net sales in the Americas for Q4 were $2.74 billion, representing 30 percent of worldwide net sales and a decrease of a single percentage point over the prior-year fourth quarter.

Lenovo appoints Computer 2000 as UK and Ireland distributor

Lenovo has appointed Computer 2000 as a distributor for the UK and Ireland to further fuel its ambitious growth plans across the market but in particular in the SMB (small and medium business) space.

Computer 2000 will be taking on Lenovo’s full range of Think products, including desktops, AIOs, workstations and servers effective 2nd half of 2012.

Commenting on the appointment, Darren Phelps, SMB and channel director UK & Ireland, said: “There is a great opportunity for us in the UK and Ireland to grow our business and strengthen our market position.  The key for us in terms of success is to ensure we have the breadth and depth in our channel to capitalise on the market opportunity.

IT spending to increase this year

Gartner says worldwide IT spending will grow by 3.7 percent in 2012, despite the impact of the Eurozone crisis and the Thailand floods. The analyst says total worldwide IT spending will total $3.8 trillion in 2012. The categories it expects to grow fastest are ‘Telecoms Equipment’ (6.9 percent), ‘Enterprise Software’ (6.4 percent), and ‘Computing Hardware’ (5.1 percent).

Peter Hubbard is appointed as new MD for Computer 2000 UK and Ireland

Peter Hubbard, who joined the company as Sales Director in June 2011, has been appointed Managing Director UK and Ireland of Computer 2000. He replaces Andy Gass, who has taken up a new post as Regional Senior Vice President for Tech Data Europe.

Commenting on his appointment, Peter said: ‘I am very excited about leading the best team in the industry and continuing to enable customer growth by delivering exceptional products and services to our reseller partners and vendors. Tech Data achieves impressive growth for Q4 in Europe

Our parent company, Tech Data, increased European sales by almost 15 percent in the final three months of its fiscal year, which ended 31 January 2011. In local currency terms, the increase was an even more impressive, 25 percent.
