Switch and router sales see continued growth
IDC recorded growth of almost 11% sequential in the worldwide market for Ethernet switches in Q3, with year-on-year growth at just over 6%. Revenues reached of $5.9 billion. The worldwide market for routers grew by 2.9% year-over-year. Most of the growth came in the Asia/Pacific region, where switch sales increased by almost 28% and now account for a quarter of worldwide revenue. China experienced a remarkable 44.1% year-over-year growth. Revenues generated by 10GbE switches increased by almost 30% and almost doubled in terms of port shipments, due to continued adoption in data centres and campus core deployments. A record total of 2.09 million 10GbE ports were shipped in the quarter.

Tech Data to acquire distribution business of Man and Machine, boosting Datech presence across Europe
Tech Data has entered into an agreement to acquire certain assets pertaining to the Value Added Distribution (VAD) business of Man and Machine, a leading VAD in the design software market in Germany, UK, France, Italy, Switzerland, the enelux, Poland and Romania. The agreement, which is subject to certain conditions being met and the merger approval of the European Commission, should be completed by the end of October. With this agreement, Datech, Tech Data’s design software division, strengthens its position as Autodesk’s leading VAD in Europe, establishes a presence in Benelux and Romania, and extends its product portfolio to include the Autodesk software for the manufacturing industry in Italy, France, UK and Poland. In addition, a number of highly skilled and qualified professionals will join Datech’s team across Europe. ‘This agreement is further evidence of Tech Data’s strategy to grow its specialist divisions by making selective acquisitions in technology areas and geographies where we can continue to grow profitably for our shareholders and enhance the service and support to our customers.’ said Nestor Cano, President, Tech Data Europe. Following the acquisition, Man and Machine intends to transform its business into a value added reseller leveraging its knowledge and expertise in the market. Tech Data achieves impressive growth for Q4 in Europe
Our parent company, Tech Data, increased European sales by almost 15 percent in the final three months of its fiscal year, which ended 31 January 2011. In local currency terms, the increase was an even more impressive, 25 percent.

It was the eleventh time we’ve claimed the title – the highest honour in the industry that any distributor can win – in 12 years. In addition, we were named Software Distributor of the Year and Maverick was named Audio visual Distributor of the Year.

Tech Data appoints Philippe Bosquier to head IT in Europe
Tech Data has appointed Philippe Bosquier, a senior IT professional with extensive experience in the supply chain and distribution sector, as Vice President of IT EMEA.
With immediate effect, Bosquier takes full responsibility for Tech Data’s ERP, e-business, communications, IT operations and application development functions throughout the region. As a key member of the European business management team, he will also join Tech Data’s European Executive Committee.
