Lenovo appoints Computer 2000 as UK and Ireland distributor

Lenovo has appointed Computer 2000 as a distributor for the UK and Ireland to further fuel its ambitious growth plans across the market but in particular in the SMB (small and medium business) space.

Computer 2000 will be taking on Lenovo’s full range of Think products, including desktops, AIOs, workstations and servers effective 2nd half of 2012.

Commenting on the appointment, Darren Phelps, SMB and channel director UK & Ireland, said: “There is a great opportunity for us in the UK and Ireland to grow our business and strengthen our market position.  The key for us in terms of success is to ensure we have the breadth and depth in our channel to capitalise on the market opportunity.

Zenbook UX21E wins coveted CNet Laptop of the Year Award

ASUS Transformer gets rave reviews

The ASUS Transformer Prime is the latest version of the company’s excellent convertible tablet form factor and it’s been going down a storm with reviewers and with buyers alike. One recent review in PC Pro said that the Transformer Prime was ‘an improvement over the original in most respects (and most other Android tablets), with better battery life, a superb screen, a good camera and much slicker design’. Hexus.net described it thus: ‘It is the thinnest and lightest tablet we’ve ever seen, yet it houses a gorgeous Super IPS+ display, a quad-core processor, arguably the best tablet camera, and, when combined with the bundled dock, dual batteries that’ll outlast a flight from London to Singapore’.

HP appoints new UK&I channel boss

HP has named Pascal Bourguet as Channel Director UK and Ireland of its PSG division. Bourguet was previously head of PSG’s consumer sales team. Paul Hunter, vice president of HP PSG in the UK and Ireland, said: ‘Pascal has done an outstanding job of leading the retail team to help drive the UK PSG business to even greater success in 2012.’ Former HP PSG sales manager Alex Ebeid has taken over Bourguet’s previous role.

Global PC market expected to start solid recovery next year

PC vendors can expect to see solid growth in global sales, according to the latest predictions from IDC. Worldwide PC shipments increased by just 2.7 percent in the second quarter of 2011, according to IDC numbers. It now expects shipments to grow by just 2.8 percent for the full year. But the company is forecasting improved growth in 2012, with shipments expected to rise 9.3 percent and average increase between 2013 through 2015 expected to be around 11 percent. Gartner meanwhile expects shipments this year to be up 3.8 percent and predicts a 10.9 percent increase in 2012.

Public Sector Focus – Toshiba Tablet PCs benchmark a new era for school starters’ education

Here is a great example of how effective IT can be in the classroom. Pupils at Henleaze Infant School in Bristol have been using Toshiba’s state-of-the arttablet notebook PCs to help children aged between four and six, to learn to write.

The teachers at the school knew the children loved learning through technology as they all showed a great deal of enthusiasm when using the school’s IT suite. However the suite also threw in a number of restrictions, such as time-table clashes and immobility. Toshiba’s new tablet PCs provided the mobility and flexibility needed by the school, but more importantly; it brought on a whole new dimension to learning.
