Cloud is the future says head of Microsoft Ireland
Ireland could become a global leader in cloud computing if it can take first mover advantage over its competitors, according to Microsoft Ireland’s Managing Director, Paul Rellis. Speaking at a meeting at the Dublin Chamber of Commerce last month, Rellis urged the next government to boost the rapidly developing cloud computing sector by creating a dedicated state agency to attract talent to the country and to promote Ireland as a pioneer of the cloud. He also believes the government should set an example and start to use the cloud itself to cut IT costs and as a showcase to the world. There are already a number of large data centres in Ireland, including Microsoft’s own US$500m (€368m) site in the capital.

Public Sector Focus – Toshiba Tablet PCs benchmark a new era for school starters’ education
Here is a great example of how effective IT can be in the classroom. Pupils at Henleaze Infant School in Bristol have been using Toshiba’s state-of-the arttablet notebook PCs to help children aged between four and six, to learn to write.
The teachers at the school knew the children loved learning through technology as they all showed a great deal of enthusiasm when using the school’s IT suite. ‘Don’t panic Mr Mainwairing!’
The media went all Corporal Jones over the Sandy Bridge technical issues last month. The Question is was there real need to make a fuss? The technical issue was on the new Intel P67& H67 Motherboard Chips, these chips are now being fixed, and rereleased at the close of the month. The Boards that were produced are perfectly usable, as long as only the 0/1 SATA Ports are used. The additional SATA ports ‘might’ suffer a degradation of 15% performance over 3 years. For those who have stock, Computer 2000 will help any of our customers to get the boards back for credit if required, or support product which is already out in the field.
